The 2017 Lexus IS 350 receives revised front end styling with a new grille, LED headlights and bolder air intakes. At the back it earns new taillights. More importantly, it gets a forward collision warning system with autonomous braking.
As is to be expected, the cabin is a thing of beauty that arrives with all the right amenities and then some. The F Sport buckets afford superb support and comfort, the driving position is likewise and it is logical in its layout. The exception to the high standard is the NuLuxe upholstery. It is not as cheesy as some faux leathers, but it’s still vinyl in the final analysis. Move rearward and legroom is tight if the front seat passengers are tall, but otherwise it is par for the segment. Ditto the trunk space — 310L is smaller than most, but functional nonetheless.
Lexus has upped the ante when it comes to standard safety equipment. The IS 350 arrives with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert along with the Lexus Safety System Plus, which includes a pre-collision system with autonomous braking, automatic high beams, dynamic cruise control and lane departure warning with keep assist. It is a complete package.
The IS 350 arrives with a 3.5L V6 engine that’s good for 306 hp and 277 lb.-ft. of torque – enough to deliver a commendable work ethic. It runs to 100 km/h in six seconds and brings a highway fuel economy rating of 9.2 L/100 km. The economy speaks to the fact this is an aging engine. The power is relayed to all four wheels through a six-speed manumatic; the irony here is the lesser 2.0L turbocharged four gets the better eight-speed box. The all-wheel drive system is both fast and proficient at getting the power to the wheel(s) that can put it to the best use. In this regard it is a good system.
